Consortium Led

A consortium allows industry and academic partners to combine their capabilities when developing and delivering new techenologies. The primary driver of a consortium approach is that it allows for greater economies of scale, efficiency and effectiveness. A consortium can be made up of delivery partners from different industry sectors and this offers a great source of competitive advantage. A consortium lets its partners share relevant skills, experience and expertise in such a way that every partner complements each another (i.e. in terms of the roles and responsibility, and in relation to deliverables). Being in the consortium allows partners the opportunity to access other partner experiences or competencies that an organization might not have, and which is too expensive for a single entity to develop. Business partners have unique selling points (USPs) and may have the capability to deliver in other geographical areas or may have access to data that can give the submission a competitive advantage over other submissions. Sharing expertise and capabilities, via the consortium, can increase a participants chances of success at product development. Business partners can share development costs, which can reduce overheads and the amount of resources required of each business and risk can be spread across participants.

About the AMRO Center of Excellence

Wikipedia defines Center of Excellence as: “a team, a shared facility or an entity that provides leadership, best practices, research, support and/or training for a focus area”.

With the advancement of manufacturing techniques and processes combined with the evolution of new sensors, sustainment of components through repair or overhaul has become a significant economic and resource drain on the industry. The reason is simple: New technologies being developed are outpacing repair knowledge.

Recognizing the need for aerospace sustainment innovation, leaders at the non-profit company EWI, The Ohio State University and GE Aerospace combined synergies with members of the Ohio Aerospace & Aviation Council (OAAC) and the Ohio Aerospace and Aviation Technology Committee (OAATC) with the purpose to help develop and form the Aerospace Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (AMRO) Center of Excellence (CoE).

The Ohio Aerospace & Aviation Council

The Ohio Aerospace & Aviation Council is a state-wide industry driven economic development organization designed to 1) to attract and retain key growth oriented companies and 2) to work collaboratively as leaders from all regions to strengthen and grow Ohio’s Aerospace & Aviation industry – including related federal, academic, non-profit installations and assets.

The Council was formed by the Ohio Governor to develop a strategy to strengthen and grow Ohio’s Aerospace & Aviation industry and is comprised of leaders from Ohio’s key Aerospace, Aviation, Defense, Space, University and Support Organizations. The challenge was to unite key Aerospace & Aviation industry thought leaders to define development initiatives that will drive Ohio’s economy and increase Ohio’s global competitiveness.

OAATC

The Ohio Aerospace and Aviation Technology Committee

The Ohio Aerospace and Aviation Technology Committee is an initiative to further develop Ohio’s leadership in Aerospace.Created by House Bill 292, this Committee brings together members of an often disparate aerospace community, from military leaders, academic experts and the industry’s top innovators. They work together alongside state lawmakers to develop a singular strategy geared to enhance an already robust economy, unify the entire state under one banner and put Ohio in a position to create new opportunities for the future.
